Share Your Technology RFP!
UTC's Technical Division is calling on all member (or non-member) energy and water companies to share their RFPs. In particular, we are looking for statements of work, performance objectives and
timeline sections of technology/application based RFPs that utilities have issued. The actual organization name will not be included. This is just a way to share best practices for other members
looking to issue RFPs to gauge how others have crafted these segments. You can send your RFP parts to marketing@utc.org. A member section of the UTC Web site
will be created to store these RFPs and will only be accessible to UTC members.

Renew Your UTC Membership
Primary contacts at all UTC Members should have received an email in July announcing that renew.utc.org is up and running! We want to thank the members that have renewed early. When you renew early,
you help UTC to plan for future growth and enhance our ability to bring new products, educational programs and member services to you. For those of you that need an invoice to renew, you can create
your own at renew.utc.org or you can contact kristy.weinshel@utc.org. All UTC US memberships expire September 30, 2008. We have a lot planned for the
next membership year, including the launch of the Smart Networks Council (www.smartnetworkscouncil.org) to address issues associated with building a
Smart Network in the energy and water industry.

UTC Research Update
UTC Research has something old and something new this summer. In response to the fast approaching LMR narrow-banding compliance deadlines, UTC is publishing a comprehensive report covering compliance
regulation which will also walk utilities through a complete spectrum and vendor selection process. UTC has once again teamed with KEMA, Inc., to publish Smart Grids, A Strategic Technology
Roadmap; a report intended to offer practical guidance to help utilities plot a course through the complex business and technology issues involved in next-generation infrastructure investments. To
pre-order these reports contact Aldo Morri, Director of Research, at 202.833.6828 oraldo.morri@utc.org.
In September, be sure to look for special pricing on recently released UTC reports in our Hot Summer Sale.

BPL Standard Threat Conference Call
Even if you have no immediate plans to deploy BPL on your distribution grid, IEEE could be about to implement BPL standards that could effectively prevent you from deploying it on your distribution
grid in the future for broadband access or Advanced Metering / Smart Grid applications. On Wednesday, August 27, 2008, at 2:00pm Eastern US Time, the United Power Line Council (UPLC) and the Utilities
Telecom Council (UTC) will jointly sponsor a conference call briefing on the state of broadband over power line (BPL) standards development with specific attention paid to how certain IEEE standards,
slated for approval next month, could adversely impact your ability to use BPL for broadband access or Advanced Metering / Smart Grid applications.
All members of UPLC and UTC are strongly encouraged to assign someone to attend this critically important conference call. Please RSVP to Kristy Weinshel,
UTC/UPLC Membership Director, or Nicole Koglin, UTC/UPLC Membership Assistant, for the call-in information. This call is only open to UTC and UPLC members.

Take Advantage of the Opportunities Offered by the UtiliSite Council
UtiliSite, a "one-stop shop" for utility collocation opportunities, is an organization of utilities that offers a wide variety of support services for commercial wireless carriers, including antenna
sitings, traffic backhaul and construction. We are a reliable source for information on the best way to work with carriers, template contracts and marketing of collocation opportunities. Your real
estate is appealing to wireless carriers, and the Council can get your real-estate and collocation staff up to speed much quicker than it would take to grow your business alone. To take advantage of
these opportunities, Principal Membership for utilities is only $5,000 and lasts through December 31, 2008. Visit us online at www.utilisite.org to
find out more about the Council, to view the membership value proposition, or for instructions on how to enroll. For more information, contact, Kristy Weinshel, Director of Membership, at
202.833.6815 or kristy.weinshel@utc.org.

Upcoming Regional Meetings
Several UTC regions have educational events planned for this fall. Regional meetings provide a great way for you to learn and network with other utilities in your same geographic area that are often
facing the same issues as your utility. UTC understands that it might be difficult to justify travel with the sluggish economy; however, these regional events provide a great way for you to gain
education that benefits your company without undergoing the high cost of traveling to a far away location. Many of these meetings also include exhibits and sponsorships from leading vendor partners,
making this a great place to see some of the new products and services these companies are offering during networking breaks. Register today to ensure your spot at your regional conference is reserved.
